Easter Yoga and Spa Break – The Bay Hotel Newquay Cornwall

Dates  Friday April 6th – Sunday 8th 2012

This year’s Easter Yoga Break is again at The Bay Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall.

The Bay Hotel is home to the award winning Fistral Spa and sits on the cliffs above the famous Fistral Beach.

The hotel is on Pentire which means you are close enough to Newquay to get to it for any retail therapy (if required!) but away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the beach, romantic coastal walks or simply explore the local area.

Your yoga teacher this year is Kathryn Carlise.

Kathryn is a very experienced teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga, her teaching style is varied, dynamic and holistic.

Our yoga classes are tailored to the people who book onto our breaks.  So complete beginners are very welcome as are experienced yogis.

Our yoga classes are fun, taught with humour, but are also practical, so you can take away techniques to help you with your day to day life.

There will be four yoga classes with lots of free time for you to enjoy the beach, spa or relax with a glass of wine.

Yoga Practice Tip: Repetitive Strain

Do you have problems with your hands falling asleep, aching, and feeling cold after a long day of work?

If you do ….yoga can help

These symptoms can be the beginning of a repetitive stress syndrome. It can happen to anyone—computer operators, photographers, graphic designers, and anyone whose work or hobby calls for long periods of steady hand movement, and repeated grasping, turning, and twisting.

Why is this happening? The meridian nerve passes through the wrist in a narrow passageway formed by the carpal bones and a tough layer of ligaments. It controls sensation in your fingers, thumb, and some muscles in your hand. Repeated motions cause the finger tendons (that also pass through that tunnel) to swell and press the nerve against the bone. If the movement patterns that cause the symptoms continue, the hands can eventually lose their ability to firmly grasp objects or even suffer permanent damage.

The good news is that doesn’t have to happen. Prevention is the key. For example, take time before using the hands to warm up the wrist joint and fingers by simply opening and closing your fist a dozen times. Another exercise is to rotate the hands clockwise for 15 seconds and then reverse the direction.

Also, massage your arms from the fingers up to the elbows and begin to build strength. One of the simplest ways to do this is to squeeze and release a tennis ball several times a day, or place the tips of your fingertips together and press into each other.

It is vital that you consistently release tension throughout the day too. You should take five- to ten-minute breaks every hour from repetitive hand motions.

Set your watch to beep and take the appropriate time to move, massage, and shake out the fingers and wrists; roll the shoulders and relax the neck muscles by lowering the chin to the chest and rolling the head from side to side.

As long as you have symptoms, either avoid yoga poses that place weight on the wrist joint, such as Down facing dog or modify them. For instance, in Down Dog, keep your forearms on the floor, or make fists and place the knuckle side on the floor to keep the wrists straight, or put a folded blanket under the heels of your hands, which will decrease the angle of your wrists and cause less strain. A chance to experience different yoga teachers and styles

I have been successfully running yoga weekends in Cornwall for over 8 years.  2012 will see us start to grow the business and expand into other areas.  Obviously to do this I cannot do all the weekends on my own!

I have slowly increased the number of yoga breaks as the years have progressed but with my other businesses also doing well (and having a family I would like to see more of ), this year will be one of change.

I have been blessed with many returning students over the years and with yoga being such a wide canvas of experience,  I have handpicked a small team of fellow yoga teachers to help you further your journey.

These are exciting times for those of you looking for a yoga holidays in luxurious surroundings, as now you will have a choice of yoga teachers and styles to choose from.

The ethos will remain the same in providing yoga which is suitable for everyone in lovely locations.

In the next few days details of other yoga teachers and the dates they will be teaching will be added to the website.  As always thank you so much for your support and inspiration.

Namaste

Phil
